Girl with Braces

If you think you are too old for braces, think again! They are not just for the pre-teen and teen set. At Renick Orthodontics, Dr. Michele Renick provides orthodontic treatment for people well into their 80’s. A straighter smile is a healthier smile at any age, and you can call 740-936-5003 for an appointment with our orthodontist to learn more about your options for adult orthodontics in Sunbury, Ohio.

One of the stories that Dr. Renick loves to tell is about an 84-year-old patient who walked into our office a number of years ago and asked for braces. Of course, Dr. Renick had to ask, “Why do you want braces?” This just goes to show that even our orthodontist fell victim to the same stereotype that we all make. Why would a person that age want braces? Her response was humbling. She told us that when she was young, they could not afford braces and she always wanted straight teeth. Now that she could do something about it, she said she wanted to pass away with a nice smile. We were glad we could help.

Girl with Braces

There are a few challenges that come with adult braces. For example, in younger patients, their jaws are still growing, and it is easier to adjust their smiles. With adults, their jaws are no longer growing, and they may have already had dental work such as fillings, crowns or extractions. This means we may need to spend a little more time on adult cases. We may need to design a treatment plan with other dental professionals such as a periodontist, general dentist, oral surgeon or endodontist as part of the treatment process to help us address some preexisting issues. In some cases, you may be referred to our office by another dental professional to make adjustments to provide a better environment for an implant or a bridge. Every smile is as unique as the person who wears it, and Dr. Renick will be happy to meet with you to discuss your needs and goals.

We are also proud to provide adult orthodontics in surrounding areas such as Galena, Johnstown, Marengo, Centerburg, Highland, Westerville and Delaware, Ohio.
