Some patients require treatment that doesn’t fit most case plans. In these instances, the treatment plan may dictate a special type of treatment sequence.

Custom Plan

In some cases, the treatment plan may require an improvement in oral hygiene before treatment begins. Brushing and flossing is a bigger effort during any kind of orthodontic treatment and the patient may need to improve this before treatment can start. In these instances, oral hygiene instruction and care by their general dentist will come first. If gum disease if present, treatment by a periodontist or gum specialist will take priority. Once the patient has improved to the point where the general dentist or periodontist clears the patient for treatment, we can schedule the initial visits. Dr. Renick won’t begin treatment in the presence of active, advanced gum disease because this could compound the problem and be harmful to the patient.

Custom Plan

Some cases may require coordination of different orthodontic techniques and treatments. Occasionally, a short treatment with appliances or braces will be recommended to help improve the outcome of a clear aligner case. Not everyone is a candidate for clear aligners, but they could potentially become one through this method. This is case specific and will be discussed at the time of the consult.

Custom Plan

In most cases when an expander is planned, it is the first step in the treatment. However, in some cases, the positions of the molars where the expander attaches are not favorable and the expander cannot be made. In these situation, the molars will be moved first to make the alignment of the teeth better for the fabrication of the expander.

The above are just a few examples of custom cases. The best way to determine treatment and treatment sequence is to schedule your initial consult with Dr. Renick so that she can determine the best course of action for each patient.
